You’ll be amazed how much is on offer in Morzine in the summer.
The lifts open back up for walking and mountain biking, wisking you up into the high alpine to enjoy the amazing views and scenery.
There’s also canyoning and rafting on the valley’s rivers and climbing and via ferrata on the cliff faces.
You can also try parapenting and fly high up above the town and take in the spectacular view.
Meanwhile in town there’s a multitude of other activities to try out.
There’s the tennis courts, the luge, the ice rink as well as horse riding and golf.
Afterwards there’s the huge outdoor pool complex to cool off in or why not visit one of the many local lakes. In fact this summer in Les Gets they’re adding huge inflatables to play on in the Lac des Ecoles just above the town.
Many of these activities are also included in the Multi pass scheme, so for 2€ a day you can try as much as you can fit in!
Road biking is huge in Morzine now too.
The Tour de France regularly passes through the town and you can come and try many of the routes and cols the riders tackle in the race itself, including the col du Joux Plan, the Col du l’Encrenaz and the Col du Joux Vert (the climb up to Avoriaz). There are also several special biking events this summer:
The Paris-Nice race is coming through and stopping overnight in Morzine on 17th June
The Morzine – Haute Chablais Cyclosportive on 18th June is a 155km and a 100km race for all to enter.
The Haute route on 26/27th August is another amateur race pitting riders against some of the hardest climbs in Europe
On top of all these great activities this summer there are also many special events put on to enter or just to come and enjoy:
The Spartan race on 1/2nd July is an obstacle race run around the town of Morzine and its surrounds. Testing competitors to the limits of their capabilities – last year they even had to jump over a fire!! There’s 4 different lengths from 6km to a 42km ‘ultra-beast’ which features over 50 obstacles! There’s even one for the kids too!
On 14-16th July Harley days comes to town. This is a huge event attracting thousands of Harley Davidson riders and their bikes. Walk the streets admiring all the lined up bikes and listen to the live music each evening. This year featuring the music of the original Blues Brothers band and Trust.
On the 12th August Morzine hosts the Haute-Forts Trail race. With the ever growing popularity of trail running, this 55km trail run goes from Morzine centre to Avoriaz via many of the peaks that surround the town. You’ll see some of the best endurance athletes pit themselves against the hardest mountain routes Morzine has to offer. There’s also a 24km route that although shorter will still defeat many a competitor!
It’s not all extreme activities however, on 31st July – 4th August there’s a pamper yourself week to help wind down from all the stress in your life. Also on 12th -18th August, Morzine is putting on a week of special kids entertainment featuring performers and games to keep the children happy.
They’re even building a beach in Morzine square on 26/27th July and 9/10th August!
Then to finish off the summer there’s the annual hosting of the Mt Blanc Rally (31st Aug - 2nd Sept). See these incredible cars race around the mountain roads at mind blowing speeds without a care for their safety!
